The April Short List

28 Apr

From 50+ to 9 to 1 in less than an hour.  We’re getting good at this.

Congratulations to the short list submissions! Winner to be announced as soon as we can find them.

Boxing Booth: A man outside City Hall proffering boxing gloves and an invitation to beat the sh*t out of him for two minutes. A free service to the exhausted office workers of Toronto.

Cardboard Fort Night: Come and make giant forts out of cardboard and duct tape.

Cooks for a Cause: Young, unheralded, creatively frustrated yet supremely talented sous chefs showcasing their skillz with the benefits going to charity.

Facetomato: Community-building through guerrilla gardening. Distributing tomato plants under cover of darkness to foster conversation and shared experience within neighbourhoods.

Let’s Get Together for Coffee: A portable coffee house and performance stage that takes over unused spaces for use as impromptu salons.

Night Walk Toronto Redux: The other late-80s CityTV mainstay (i.e., not this one) redone for the 21st century, remix media set.

QR Code In-situ Music Performances: Videos of great Toronto bands performing at indie record shops accessible only by visiting those shops and capturing the QR code with your phone.

Super Street Fire – Turbo Champions Edition: “Each [player] wears a pair of gloves that reacts to specific gestures and a headset that reads their brain activity. The participants face off by controlling a two-dimensional ring of fire, creating flames of their own color to attack and defend. A punch or throwing motion will send a single wave of fire towards the other player’s side; raising a hand in a blocking gesture will create a stationary pillar of fire that will block the oncoming wave; a consistent focused thought will send a rapid pattern of flame across the entire ring.” [Ed. Note: Paraphrasing just couldn’t do this justice.]

Toronto Lip Dub: A massive, city-wide lip dub to showcase the best we have to offer. Because this is simply unacceptable.
